Writer’s [Blogging] Block

Forgive me, but I am having a severe case of writer’s blogging block. Between a whole lotta writing for my Public Relations final (loved the class, by the way), a really busy week at work and about a million phone calls/applications to forward my mail and change my utilities for my move in six days (SIX. DAYS) my brain is completely fried. So.Much.Packing.

So I will leave you with this:

I will never be a “beautiful blogger”… you know, the ones that manage to set up a tripod and take their own to photograph. The photo is to die for and they make it look EASY! I admire those women who "know thier angles" and seem to look adorable while dying their hair, shopping at Target, or making lunch.

Case and point? While attempting to take a cute selfie to send to Houston with my new glasses I manage to sneeze at the best possible moment and end up looking like this:

 I.AM.AMAZING.

But I am encouraged by Jenny Highsmith’s calligraphy art – and she happens to be a stunningly “beautiful blogger.”

I am Elise. I am imperfect and quirky. I laugh, I cry (a lot). I love and I hurt. But I am also uniquely and wonderfully made – sneezes and all.

Wednesday Wish List No. 2

Hello lovelies!  Thank you all for the sweet comments on my wish list last week! I had so much fun sharing some of the sweet things I found while perusing the internet. (What on earth did we do to fill the commuting hours before the creation of Pinterest and smartphones???)

This week has been crazy (CRAZY) busy while I try to finish my final project, pack my apartment (eeep) and take care of the rest of my life! Ha! But I promised myself I would share the items I found this week for my Wednesday wish list.

So, without further ado, Wednesday Wish List No. 2

1)  I originally saw these boots at Anthropologie, but found THIS post from Jenny Highsmith and a less expensive version on Zappos! Aren’t they gorgeous???
2)  I hardly go out of my house without a scarf on anymore and pretty lightweight chiffon ones will be a staple in my summer wardrobe.
3)  It was 92 degrees on Easter and these fun bowls have me dreaming of delicious orange sherbet to beat the heat (it is toooo early for that kind of weather!)
4)  Such a delicate and pretty watch – I am totally lame and can’t use a watch without the little dots for the hours. Without the dots, I can never tell if it is 3:30 or 4:30.
5)  It just wouldn’t be a wish list without a pretty pair of Mary Janes and these ones fit the bill.
6)  Jenny Highsmith swears by this lipstick and even though I cringed at the $22 price tag, I may just have to give one a shot. They look stunning in all of her photos, and six hour color??? Yes, please.

Thanks for checking out my favorites from this week, and if you would like to share your own Wednesday Wishlist, paste the following code on your blog post!

Downsizing

Life is getting downsized, in more ways than one.

First and foremost, my commute is getting downsized, hallelujah! I have a tentative moving date of May 3, 2014!  Eeeek! This move will eliminate 7-10 hours of commuting every week!  I am starting to get excited now and the fears and insecurities of changing residences for the first time in seven years are slowly starting to fade. Oh don’t worry… I will have plenty of ridiculous freak-out moments in the next two weeks, I am sure!

So, here is what is going on:

I chose to take the smaller studio apartment with the better price and the ideal location. Want to see the floor plan?

Of course you do.

It is about 50 feet smaller than my current place, but I am totally ok with it. A smaller place has given me the motivation to do some serious purging – I am talking to you, greeting cards from the last 20 years, and when push came to shove  I did NOT want to pay nearly $1,300 for a different one bedroom apartment.  I also couldn’t justify paying a reasonable price for something further away that wouldn’t help me eliminate as much commuting time. – It would have been extremely counterproductive. I am literally 15 minutes from work, the Metrolink station and Houston. My car will thank me. (You're welcome, car.)

Here is the plan for furniture placement:

Now, I can’t help but be slightly nostalgic about my little place I have called home for over half a decade so I decided to take a couple photos before the packing extravaganza began (I started Sunday).

Just in case you’re wondering, here is my current floor plan:

Needless to say, I have amassed quite the collection of stuff, but I am looking forward to simplifying a little and getting so many hours of my life back.

My biggest worry??? Having to wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom and walking through the kitchen! I'll survive.

Stay tuned for more updates with packing and planning shenanigans during #closertoeverything2014. Read Part 1 HERE.

Wednesday Wishlist #1

I discover so many fun things during the week that I pin to Pinterest (sometimes) or things that I admire for a moment but never get the chance to actually share them with anyone.

The remedy?

My weekly Wednesday Wishlist of my new favorite things!!! The link to the items are below (click the number from the list to see more info). Enjoy!

1)   I have been on the hunt for these candle pillars at Ikea, and wouldn’t you believe last time that I was there they had every color except white? PPffffttt.
2)   It is a pretty clock in my favorite color. Need I say more?
3)      I love this long flowy skirt and I am only disappointed that I didn't find it sooner… it would have been great for Easter – which makes me realize I don’t have a new outfit for Sunday. Dang it.
4)      Pretty pink polish is a MUST for spring, and I am ashamed to say it has been two months since my last pedicure. I think I may have to stop by the mall on my way home from work tomorrow.
5)      I “LOVE” organization and I can think of a million different things to put in this sweet little dish – earrings, paperclips or bobby pins. The options are endless, and the price is right too!
6)      Besides polka dots, I have a serious weakness for all things girly, and this dainty necklace is right up my alley!
7)      Must.have.these.shoes. Could they be any more delightfully feminine? I may just have to break my ballet flat purchasing streak and spend some tax refund money on these babies.
8)     The scarf situation is getting a little out of hand at home and I love how simple and inexpensive this space saving option is!

Thanks for checking out my favorites from this week, use the hashtag #WednesdayWishlist!

Thanks, loves!

I See The Light

So 2014 is going to be a year of BIG changes.

If you know me at all, you know I am panic stricken and ready to hide under my blankets for a few days at the very thought of having to make any kind of decision. I am perfectly capable of getting dressed in the morning and deciding what to eat for lunch (usually) but BIG, life changing decisions scare me to death!

With my pending move out of my home-sweet-apartment on the horizon, I hit my breaking point while trying to select new frames for my glasses.  Like, a complete emotional breakdown. Poor Houston. He is a trooper.

Please enjoy the poorly lit photos below with half of my makeup missing (my eyes water terribly during an eye exam and I don't even know why I bother to put my on make up).

[woah there, granny glasses]

OK. So I picked out new glasses! It was a game-time decision between the two frames I really liked.  One with a more classic cat eye with a tortoise frame and the other was a funky black Ray-Ban frame.

The winner???

The Ray-Bans! - which I do not have a photo of myself wearing, because I was nearing the anxiety zone and just needed to make a decision. FAST.

Fun revelation of the day: I have a small head (no, that's not the revelation) and on a whim tried on a pair of children's glasses. Surprisingly, they still fit my face really well and they didn't stick out as far on the sides.

The winning Ray-Bans are kids glasses!

Blogger Buttons - A Novice's Step-By-Step Guide

I am computer savvy to a point, but when it comes to graphic design I tend to lean heavily on Houston and Leah for their killer design skills. But, every so often I get the urge to figure something out for myself.

Now, I realize if I just asked one of them for their help, my project would be completed in a fraction of the time, but there is something wonderfully gratifying about answering my own questions. I mean, using Google is still a way of answering my own questions, right???

I found a half dozen or so tutorials on how to make a blog button and they were all so confusing. “Delete this HTML code” “look for ____ near the bottom” all on a whole page of stuff I don’t understand.

So, here is my easy-peasy tutorial on making a blog button.  What is a blog button?  A blog button is a small photo with a link to your blog that other bloggers can place on their blogs as a sort of free advertising.

Huh???

You have a blog. I have a blog. Let’s both put a button on our blog’s home page to advertise for each other!

Now, some big-time bloggers actually will sell the spaces on their home pages for a price.  This gets you prime real estate on a blog viewed by hundereds thousands of people, and maybe some of those lovely people will actually click on your button and stay awhile reading YOUR blog too.

So here is my little cheat sheet on making (and posting) a blog button for your blog.

PLEASE comment if you have any questions, or if I have missed anything. I am no professional, but I was able to make a blog button all by myself. Thankyouverymuch.

Happy blogging and button making, lovelies!

Now, there are two choices for putting this blog button on your blog:

Directly on your home page or on another “page” of your choice (this is the option I use... check out my "Contact" page to see how it looks).

Easter {Bunny}

I love spring. I love the beautiful flowers and the warm sunshine paired with crisp air.

I especially love celebrating Easter. It gives me an excuse to buy a pretty new dress, to act like a kid again while dyeing Easter eggs, and celebrate Jesus. Throw in some yummy food at my parents’ house, and I'm in heaven.

One thing I don't like however is how all the Easter decorations have bunnies all over them. Now don't get me wrong, bunnies are adorable. I would just rather not decorate with them for Easter. But that creates a conundrum, since I have found it impossible to find anything I like that is not practically covered in bunnies.

Case and point?  The "Easter" display on my recent trip to HomeGoods:

[blegh]

I don't have a house to decorate, so I guess it isn't so necessary to have a lot of decorations for the holidays, but I love being festive and I'm a little bummed I can't find anything I really like.

However, one of my favorite bloggers, Jessica Garvin, has the most amazing hand drawn chalkboard prints in her Etsy shop.

Last year I freaked out when I saw an Easter print and knew I had to have it! About three seconds later and one easy download, the image was mine for printing. *Thank you Costco for inexpensive photo processing prices!

You can purchase one of Jessica's awesome prints HERE for yourself too.
UPDATE:  SHE JUST POSTED A FREE DOWNLOAD FOR THE "HE IS RISEN" PRINT ON HER BLOG HERE

And now I am off to Home Goods to find an awesome frame but steering clear of the bunny table!

[any other decorating ideas would be greatly appreciated]
